Licensing of Revd. Peter Thomas and Revd. Annie Gurner
It was a joyous and ceremonial occasion on Tuesday 26 January 2016 when the Bishop of Taunton, Rt Revd. Ruth Worsley and the Archdeacon of Wells, Ven. Nicola Sullivan licensed our new Priest in Charge of the Ham Hill Group of Parishes, Revd. Peter Thomas and Associate Vicar, Revd. Annie Gurner, who will particular pastoral responsibility for St Catherine’s Montacute and also for the parish of Odcombe.
Revd. Bruce Faulkner and Keith Hann (Rural Dean and Lay Chair of the Ilchester Deanery) presented the two new priests to the Bishop.
There followed a formal legal process of Revd.Peter Thomas and Associate Vicar, Revd. Annie Gurner receiving their charge and making both an affirmation of faith and promises of loyalty and obedience to the Bishop of Bath and Wells.
Following the Bishop’s sermon, Revd.Peter Thomas and Associate Vicar, Revd. Annie Gurner were, as is traditional installed in their “cure of souls”, symobolically led first to the church door and then to ring the church bell – all of this surrounded by a congregation singing in good voice.
