Class 4

blog-image-01Welcome to Class 4

We encourage the children to be self-motivated, supportive of each other, to work hard but most of all to enjoy learning.

As they progress through the school, the children are learning to work at a faster pace and to be more independent, and we hope they will take great pride in their achievements.

Our first topic is Shine. It is based on The Green Book by Jill Paton-Walsh. We are exploring the concept of leaving planet Earth in order to find a new planet to inhabit, following a devastating event on Earth. We are using the book to develop our sentence-level skills, engage in some drama activities and are working towards writing our own stories. We are considering how food is made and how our digestive systems work in Science. We have been working on our Geography skills, including looking at different types of settlements, different features of the land and creating maps.

Class 4 have been developing our reflection area, which is a quiet space, where children can feel close to God or spend some time reflecting. The children lead us in prayer at lunchtime and at the end of the day.

PE days are Monday and Thursday. Please ensure you have PE kit in school on those days.

Homework is set and due in on a Monday. We will also check their reading records to see whether they have read 4 times. They will receive a house point for reading 4 times and a house point for handing their homework in on time.

Spellings and times tables are tested on a Friday. We are working on the 4 times table at the moment.
